Lassana Sarre is a visual artist and portraitist who was born in 1994 in Paris and grew up in Vitry-sur-Seine. Drawing on the heritage of Western masters, including Velázquez, Courbet and Manet, he develops a formal language that breaks with traditional frameworks to enter into a critical dialogue with art history. Black bodies occupy a central place in his compositions: alternately affirmed, diluted and effaced, they act as sites for an interrogation of visibility, memory and the mechanisms of representation.
Lassana Sarre’s work has recently been shown in the solo exhibition “L’enfant aux cerises”, at the Galerie Polaris, Paris (2025). He has participated in numerous group exhibitions at MAC VAL, Musée d’art contemporain, Vitry-sur-Seine; the Musée national de l’histoire de l’immigration, Paris; the Maison africaine de la photographie, Bamako; Villa Arson, Nice ; etc.
