Colorful hand-drawn illustrations include an hourglass, a spider web, stylized French words, an open book, a building, and a yellow figure carrying a rock labeled PORTANT SYMBOLIE against a gray textured background.

Sorority

Although the word sorority emerged in the 1970s, it covers an older historical reality rooted in feminist struggles. Sisterhood is a solidarity constituted or reinforced by the sharing of similar social, political, and cultural experiences. In Turiya Magdalela’s work, the tights sewn together symbolise an esprit de corps, a way of being one. In Frances Goodman’s work, the artist refers to a common experience of oppression: false nails, false eyelashes, make-up, all outrageous signs of a socially constructed global femininity. Fighting for independence, not only for oneself, but for an entire people: Daniel Otero Torres creates in his works an alliance of rebel women, fighters standing shoulder to shoulder in the exhibition.
